Chinese-owned miner Serbia Zijin Copper on July 28 said that in the period of seven and a half years, it sold to the National Bank of Serbia (|NBS) 17 tons of gold, the amount of gold equal to the state’s total gold reserves until 10 years ago.
“From 2019 to mid this year, Serbia Zijin Copper Serbia, without changing the gold placement model that existed before the takeover of the Bor Mining and Smelting complex (RTB Bor), sold 17,005 kilograms of gold, or 1,356 gold bars, to the NBS,” it is said in the release.
The company also said that operations continued according to the same principle applied by the former RTB Bor, giving the NBS the right of first refusal on domestically produced gold.
In practice, according to the statement, the NBS buys the offered gold, which remains in Serbia as part of the national gold reserves. “Only if the NBS does not exercise its right of first refusal, which has never happened so far, the gold can be sold to other buyers. In the first half of 2026, Serbia Zijin Copper delivered 164 gold bars weighing 2,057 kilograms to the NBS,” the company said in the statement.
