Political Science Periodical Poll: 39.6 Percent of Voters Favor University Students, 37.5 Support Progressives

According to a public opinion poll conducted by the New Serbian Political Thought periodical and cited by the Vreme weekly, 39.6 percent of the public will support the anti-governmental university student ticket in the upcoming snap elections, while the ruling Progressive Party of Serbia is favored by 37.5 percent of voters.

The parliamentary threshold would also be passed by the Socialist Party of Serbia, with 4.9 percent of votes, as well as two possible opposition blocks.

A potential coalition between the People’s Movement of Serbia, the New Face of Serbia, the Ecological Uprising and the Movement for the Decentralization of Serbia would garner 5.6 percent of votes, while a coalition between the Freedom and Justice party, the Serbia Center (SRCE) party and the Movement of Free Citizens would have 4.2 percent of support.

The same poll found that Dr. Branimir Nestorovic’s We – Power of the People movement would pass the threshold with 3.8 percent of votes, while, with 2.3 percent of votes, the New Democratic Party of Serbia would not.

According to New Serbian Political Thought editor-in-chief Djordje Vukadinovic, who exclusively presented the poll’s findings for Vreme’s latest double issue, the university student ticket continues to grow, the regime on the whole is holding ground, while the opposition parties have been suppressed but are still vital.

Vukadinovic also stressed that as many as 25 percent of subjects questioned were undecided, did not plan to vote or refused to answer.

“For the first time, [Serbian President Aleksandar] Vucic is entering an election scenario where, at minimum, there is no well-known and guaranteed ending,” Vukadinovic said and added that “the election game will be played until the final whistle.”
