Aleksandar Vucic (BETAPHOTO/MILAN ILIC)
Konstantin Samofalov, the international secretary of the Freedom and Justice Party, said on Aug. 10 that President Aleksandar Vucic is personally halting the reforms essential to Serbia joining the European Union.
“Amid the unbelievable number of lies he spews, Vucic let one true statement slip, saying the chances of Serbia soon joining the EU are slim due to numerous political reasons,” Samofalov said in his press release.
The opposition official continued by stating that “the outgoing president only forgot to say that he personally is the one halting the reforms essential to EU accession, because he would [then] not only lose power but also have to answer for everything he has done to Serbia.”
Serbia’s progress toward the EU requires an efficient crackdown on corruption, as well as implementing the rule of law and free elections, Samofalov said and added that “Serbia’s European future is on hold because Vucic’s regime lies, grabs and steals anything it can from anyone they can.”
