Belgrade University Ranked Between 201-300th by Shanghai Academic Ranking
School of Chemistry professor and member of the New Democratic Party of Serbia Aleksandar Popovic said on Aug. 27 that the Belgrade University's lower ranking on the Shanghai list has nothing to do with the blockades in the country and that it was strange that the university's "most vocal critics are professors with no or next to no internationally recognized scientific works that are rarely cited."
In an interview with the NIN weekly he likened them "to European soccer teams that do not win points and destroy their national league's position, and are practically bringing the University in Belgrade's position down."
Speaking on up-coming elections he stressed that the campaign "is already absolutely unfair." "All those who are in the opposition to the government who abandoned the fight for a caretaker government and are stressing the unfair election conditions less made a big mistake. I regret that the New Democratic Party of Serbia did not encounter understanding from other stakeholders on this issue," Popovic said.
