Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in Belgrade on Sept. 1 said that the alliance among the Non-Aligned Movement member states is alive and effective and is more than just a memory of the glorious past.

Speaking at the opening of the high-level meeting marking the 65th anniversary of the first conference of the Non-Aligned Movement held in Belgrade, Vucic said that peace cannot be preserved by fear, but dialogue.

“In a time when the foundations of the global order are shaking under the pressure of selective access to international law, the Non-Aligned Movement remains the strongest bastion of multilateralism, championing the idea that the world must belong to everyone, not just those whose economic or military power is currently prevailing,” Vucic said

He also announced the launch of three new cooperation initiatives: “non-aligned digital,” a Non-Aligned Movement film festival and a seminar for young diplomats from the Non-Aligned Movement countries.

Vucic stressed that the non-aligned nations remain committed to the principles of the United Nations, according to which the voice of every independent country carries the same moral weight, regardless of its size or material wealth.

“Our sincere understanding and mutual solidarity prove that our long-standing partnerships are not merely a memory of the glorious past. This is a living and effective alliance that has proved its worth in all key historical moments,” the Serbian president said, adding that the format is not outdated and that they should not be gathered by big powers, but rather by themselves.

Vucic also said that while Serbia is on the EU path, its foreign policy is shaped based on the principles of independence, military neutrality and cooperation in all parts of the world.
