Serbian Assembly speaker Ana Brnabic has said that Serbia is not worried about Croatia’s threats to block Serbia’s EU path and accused Zagreb of “nurturing the Ustasha legacy” and “glorifying and supporting atrocities.”
Commenting on Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic’s statement that Serbia will close its doors to the EU, if it goes ahead with the idea of arranging state and military funeral honors for Ratko Mladic, Brnabic said that “a man who supports” far-right musician Marko Perkovic, better known by his stage name Thompson, cannot be giving admonitions to Belgrade.
In a statement to the Sept. 2 issue of Belgrade daily Blic, Brnabic said that following admonitions by European Parliament Rapporteur for Serbia Tonino Picula, “Serbia is also being lectured about civilizational values and justice by a man who, in the capacity of Croatian prime minister, has openly and directly supported Thomspon, an undisguised Ustasha who promotes and glorifies Nazi values on a daily basis.”
“Plenkovic, as the Croatian prime minister, supported a Nazi event, during which half a million people chanted the Ustasha salute, which is equivalent to the Nazi salute, while also the entire Serbian nation and Serbia were threatened that their Ustasha hand would reach us in our country,” Brnabic stressed.
She also said that Plenkovic “should know that there are people and countries in the region who will always provide an adequate response to him.”
“Serbia is not worried about Croatia’s threats to block our EU path. Others may do whatever Zagreb demands, regardless of how humiliating it could be for those countries and the people living there. But, Serbia will not. The EU path is important to us, but the truth is even more important to us,” Brnabic said.
