Everything pertaining to the organization of the burial of former Republika Srpska Army general and ICTY convict Ratko Mladic represents not only additional distancing from Europe but also proof that President Aleksandar Vucic’s regime “has not renounced [its] policy of hatred, violence and crime,” Konstantin Samofalov, the international secretary of the oppositional Freedom and Justice Party, said on Sept. 9.
In his statement for the Danas daily, Samofalov opined that Serbia’s EU integration is “practically frozen” and that the regime’s failure to fulfill the obligations it accepted is harming the state because the EU funds allocated to Serbia in the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans are not being drawn.
“An example of how absurd it is to even talk about this can be found in [Serbia’s] false minister of European integration Nemanja Starovic, who is the founder of the pro-Putin Center for Social Stability, through which an anti-European campaign is being led,” Samofalov concluded.
