At the continued inaugural session of the Kosovo parliament on Sept. 9, Albulena Haxhiu was re-appointed speaker of the Assembly. In the vote, 62 members were in favor, 16 against and 13 abstained.
Haxhiu was the speaker in the previous convocation. She is also the acting Kosovo president.
After her appointment, the deputy speakers were nominated: Ardian Gola of the Self-Determination, Vlora Citaku of the Democratic Alliance of Kosovo, Kujtim Shala of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Slavko Simic of the Serb Ticket and Emilija Rexhepi, representing other minority communities. Haxhiu has instructed the representatives of parliamentary caucuses to reach agreement on the method of voting on the deputy speakers.
There was no agreement on the voting method during the consultations; there have been proposals for a vote on all deputy speakers in one package, but not all parties have agreed to that.
