Vucic Says Will Step Down on Sept. 27

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who will head the election ticket titled “United Serbia” gathered around the Serbian Progressive Party, said in the evening on Sept. 14 that he will resign as head of state on Sept. 27, and then start campaigning for snap parliamentary elections scheduled for Oct. 25. 

“That evening, I will address people and thank them for their support. I have served as the country’s president the longest since the multi-party system was introduced. I could not have done it without the citizens. The only thing I can say is that I have faithfully served Serbia and the country’s citizens,” Vucic told TV Pink.

Vucic also said that he plans to campaign as “an ordinary citizen,” adding that he has his own car, but has also acquired “a small truck and a travel trailer”, as “he will not have overnight accommodation everywhere while travelling through the most remote villages". He also announced rallies in major Serbia’s cities.

“We will organize three or four major rallies - Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis, Kragujevac. I think that the final campaign rally will be in Nis,” Vucic said.
