Zdravko Ponos (BETAPHOTO/MILOS MISKOV)
The Serbian Center (SRCE) party will not withdraw from the upcoming snap parliamentary elections, keeping to its earlier announced decision to run in a coalition titled ‘European Serbia’ along with the Freedom and Justice Party and the Solidarity Citizens’ Movement, stated SRCE leader Zdravko Ponos.
In a post on X made just past midnight on Sept. 16, Ponos shared an article by the N1 news portal. The headline – “After The People’s Serbia Withdraws – Will SRCE Reconsider and Support the Student Ticket?” – references the fact that the newly-formed People’s Serbia coalition decided to withdraw its ticket in support of the anti-regime university student movement. In response to the question posed in the title, Ponos wrote a simple caption: “No.”
Ponos’s coalition partner, Solidarity leader Goran Jesic, also took to X in response to the article, stating that “Sometimes it is important to bear in mind that Dalmatians, engineers and military personnel do not yield to such pressures.”
The People’s Serbia coalition referred to in the N1 article was formed by Miroslav Aleksic’s People’s Movement of Serbia, Milos Parandilovic’s New Face of Serbia and Aleksandar ‘Cuta’ Jovanovic’s Ecological Uprising. It submitted its ticket, supported by 10,500 signatures, to the State Electoral Commission on Sept. 15 only to immediately withdraw in favor of supporting the Student Ticket in the coming Oct. 25 vote.
