European Mobility Week Opens in Serbia

European Mobility Week in Belgrade opened on Sept. 16 under the slogan "Mobility for All" with a symbolic bicycle ride from Europe House to the Drinka Pavlovic Elementary School.

Mobility Week events to promote good, sustainable and safe transport will be taking place in Belgrade, Nis, Subotica, Arandjelovac, Novi Pazar and Novi Sad until Sept. 22. Julian Vassallo, deputy head of the European Union Delegation to Serbia, said at the opening of Mobility Week at Europe House in Belgrade that the events are aimed at encouraging people to get involved and think about how they move through their towns and pick smarter, healthier modes of transport.

Talis Linkais, director of the Transport Community's Permanent Secretariat, said days of mobility are important for exchanging opinions and considering the accessibility of spaces people move through daily to get to work, school or their friends. Damien Sorrell, the head of the regional Western Balkan hub of the European Investment Bank, said smarter, greener and more efficient mobility solutions can transform people's lives and movements.

This year's campaign centers the public's perspective in planning for smart urban mobility, and promoting safe, accessible and sustainable transport for all, regardless of age, abilities or life circumstances. It also highlights how much street, public space and transport system design and organization directly affect quality of life in towns and communities. This year's European Mobility Week was organized by the EU Delegation to Serbia in partnership with the EU for the Green Agenda in Serbia project, the EIB and the Transport Community. The campaign also brings together cities and municipalities, schools, EU member country embassies, EU-funded projects, programs, civil society organizations and other partners across the country.
