The president of Serbia and head of the United Serbia electoral ticket, Aleksandar Vucic, announced on Sept. 23 that he was returning to Serbia from New York in two days, when he will “take the lead in the fight against those who have demeaned Serbia.”
Earlier, he stated that he would resign to the post of president on Sunday, Sept. 27, in order to take part in the election campaign of the ticket he is heading in the forthcoming Oct. 25 early parliamentary elections. “I have one message to all my fellow comrades, to all who support us – and that is to fight. I will arrive in two, two and a half days and will lead this fight against those who have demeaned our Serbia, tried to humiliate the women of Serbia, insulted and undermined all our values,” Vucic said in a video-message on Instagram from New York, where he is to address the U.N. General Assembly.
Vucic met on the margins of the General Debate of the 81st Session of the U.N. General Assembly in New York with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau. “We discussed the further advancement of relations between Serbia and the U.S., investments, political issues and other important subjects that we wish to solve through open and constructive dialogue,” Vucic announced on Instagram.
Vucic also announced that he had a brief conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron on Sept. 22, whom he met in passing. “That is the U.N. General Assembly – many meetings, little time, and some of the best talks take place purely by chance,” Vucic declared.
