Russian Ambassador to Serbia Aleksandr Botsan-Kharchenko has said that “the West could try to interfere in the election process in Serbia,” adding that “provocations or new attempts to trigger a color revolution cannot be ruled out” after the vote.
Speaking to Russian media, the ambassador said that one of the main objections of the West still concerns Serbian outgoing president Aleksandar Vucic’s relations with Moscow, who refuses to join anti-Russian sanctions, despite pressure from the European Union (EU).
“I believe that for these reasons, due to dissatisfaction with Vucic, provocations or attempts at a color revolution after the vote cannot be ruled out,” Sputnik Serbian Service reported in the evening of Sept. 28.
The diplomat also said that Russia will deploy election observation teams to Serbia, adding that they will, inter alia, work within the framework of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), in accordance with the established practice of reciprocal election observation.
Ambassador Botsan-Kharchenko expressed his hope that domestic stability will be preserved in Serbia after the vote.
