Ilija Srdanovic, the lead candidate of the Student Ticket – The Students Will Win, said on Oct. 1 that there will be absolutely no collaboration with the current regime or its satellites.

He added that his ticket believes it will secure an independent majority, while noting that his movement will not be the one to sabotage the removal of the regime.

“That morning [after the elections], I will walk the streets of a free Novi Sad and free Serbia. And, after that, we will begin the process of forming a cabinet, filling the seats in parliamentary committees and planning our next activities so as to meet all legal formalities in the shortest possible time, form a government and begin the process of curing Serbia in keeping with the Student Plan,” Srdanovic told the Nedeljnik weekly, referencing his ticket’s official program.

Asked his opinion on the Student Movement’s decision not to collaborate with oppositional parties, Srdanovic stated he accepted this immediately and fully.

“I wasn’t contacted [ahead of the decision] and am glad I wasn’t put in such an awkward position. That decision may seem rigid, but the Student Movement has from the outset insisted on its independence of any political pressures and has remained true to this stance,” Srdanovic explained.

He went on to say that the university student anti-regime movement is a movement “founded and led by university students” and that it “has from the outset had clear principles which it has consistently abided by.”

“I don’t believe the invitation to [join] the Student Ticket was an invitation to become an MP candidate for any political option but rather an unambiguous call to join the endeavor of Serbia prevailing over the mafia,” Srdanovic concluded.
