Column of Tractors in Novi Sad

The Aleksandar Vucic - United Serbia election ticket will hold an election rally in Novi Sad at 6 p.m. on Oct. 16, and already since the morning a column of tractors that entered the city with a police escort has been parked on Bulevar Mihaila Pupina boulevard, from the city center to Varadin Bridge.

A part of that boulevard and the streets around Trg Slobode square - Mileticeva and Njegoseva - are closed for traffic and cars are not allowed into the downtown area.

A stage and bleachers have been set up in Trg Slobode square, there are tents and stands along Zmaj Jovina street, while mobile toilets have been placed in the streets around the square.

Police and private security have been securing the square and the equipment in it since Oct. 15.

This will be the first Serbian Progressive Party rally in Novi Sad after the collapse of the concrete canopy at the city's main railway station on Nov. 1, 2024, which killed 16 people and left one person severely injured.

The protesting university students have urged Novi Sad citizens to ignore the rally, and local citizen groups and activists have done the same.
