A delegation of seven Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) will visit Serbia from Oct. 22 to 26 as part of an international observation mission for parliamentary elections.

According to an Oct. 16 release by the European Parliament, the delegation will visit Serbia to assess if the Oct. 25 elections were conducted in accordance with Serbian laws and international standards. The EP delegation will be part of the election observation mission appointed by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHIR).

The delegates will meet with representatives of different political parties, government officials, the media, election authorities and civil society. The day after the elections, the ODIHR, together with the heads of delegations from the European Parliament, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Parliamentary Assembly and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, will issue a joint statement on preliminary findings and conclusions at a news conference.

The European Parliament’s delegation consists of seven lawmakers from five countries and six political groups. It will be headed by Austrian lawmaker Andreas Schieder of the Social Democrats group.
