Elections (BETAPHOTO/DRAGAN GOJIC)
Serbia awaits its upcoming snap parliamentary elections amid a profound political and social crisis, due to which the country needs change and reforms, the European Movement in Serbia announced on Oct. 21.
“The public’s demands for justice, accountability and a state where the law applies to all and where [public] institutions equally serve all citizens, not just the regime, are at the core of the reforms needed for a normal life in the country as well as for membership in the European Union,” the Movement said in its press release.
The statement went on to assert that the Movement has spent over three decades advocating European integration, convinced that the country’s European future must be the joint goal of all citizens – above political divisions and any regime’s interests.
“The European Union is Serbia’s most important partner, with which it shares deep historical, economic, cultural, educational and familial ties. For centuries, we’ve shared the ups and downs of the great European civilization and have relied on it. We’ve contributed to it and it is part of our identity and is our home. That is why EU membership is a strategic interest for Serbia and its people,” the Movement concluded.
