The Serbian ombudsman will organize 24-hour duty shifts starting Oct. 25, the date of early parliamentary elections, to enable citizens to point out potential violations of rights during the electoral and post-electoral process.
The shifts will be organized in order to ensure the institution's availability in a period of particular importance for exercising the constitutional rights of citizens and enabling a timely response to indications of possible violations of rights within the ombudsman's purview.
The ombudsman has underscored that the shifts will be carried out within the institution's legally defined jurisdiction and do not entail taking over the powers of electoral commissions, courts and other bodies authorized to decide on election objections, complaints, regularity of the election procedure, and election results.
