Informer TV (BETAPHOTO/MILAN OBRADOVIC)
An initiative seeking revocation of TV Informer’s broadcast license will be submitted to the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM), the Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia (IJAS) said in a statement on Oct. 27.
The initiative will be handed by civil society organizations, media associations and representatives of journalism studies at the universities of Belgrade, Novi Sad and Nis.
“The initiative is a response to the long and systematic violation of laws and program obligations that REM has not sanctioned so far,” IJAS said in the statement.
In the evening on Oct. 26, a group of protesters clashed with the police outside the TV Informer building in Belgrade, which they had previously raided, interrupting the program.
Responding to the incident, the Student List said that they do not support intrusion into institutions or media premises, nor do they encourage such actions.
“We will liberate the media through the Assembly and institutional fight for freedom and professional journalism,” the Student List said in a statement.
