The Public Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime (TOK) confirmed on Nov. 2 that Alta Bank’s owner Davor Macura, director of the bank's Treasury and Cash Management Department, G.M., and a treasury operations associate, I.P,. had been arrested.

Macura is suspected of having abused his position as a responsible person, and the other two suspects  of aiding him in committing the offense.

According to the organized crime prosecutors, G.M. and I.P., responsible for directly handling valuables in Alta Bank's vault, assisted Macura by giving him their vault access cards or by using their own presence and access cards to make it possible for Macura to enter the vault, known as "Depo," without authorization. During these unauthorized entries, Macura allegedly removed cash from the vault, thereby obtaining unlawful financial gains of approximately 45 billion dinars.

"On Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, 2026, searches were conducted at Alta Bank's premises and the residence of suspect D.M. on the orders of the Public Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime. During the search of the bank's premises, an inventory of the cash held in the vault was carried out," the prosecutor's office said.

The suspects were ordered detention for up to 48 hours. They were expected to be questioned by the Public Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime shortly.
