On Nov. 3, the Higher Court in Nis said it received from the Justice Ministry decisions by former Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on granting pardon to 18 people who are or were facing criminal proceedings before the court.
The largest group, comprising 15 people, was granted exemption from criminal prosecution in a case handled by the Special Department for Combating Corruption of the Higher Court in Nis. They include members of the Nis Headquarters for Emergency Situations during the tenure of former mayor Dragana Sotirovski, who were facing proceedings over contracts worth more than RSD843 million.
Among those granted pardon are Lt. General Milosav Simovic, former commander of the Serbian Army Land Forces, convicted of compromising the confidentiality of classified information, former Nis City Assembly president Igor Novakovic, and Bratislav Todorovic, a former gynecologist at the Nis Clinical Centre, who was sent to prison in March 2015 to serve an 18-month sentence for accepting bribes, according to portal Juzne vesti.
