Now that the Serbian Progressive Party decidedly lost the recent snap parliamentary elections, the country’s security framework requires severe lustration and the determining criminal responsibility, claims military analyst Aleksandar Radic.

“What can a new government do with security personnel who accepted to lead a special, hybrid war against the majority of their fellow citizens in the name of a regime? What do we do with people who accepted such rules of the game? We must free ourselves from the ballast they represent, because they are not capable of doing their jobs,” Radic told the Nov. 5 edition of the Vreme weekly.

The analyst stressed that this is not about retaliation but rather that the Student List’s intention to clean up state administration also includes radical action in state security institutions, which are full of people who spent “years receiving large salaries to surveil and harass the regime’s political opposition.”

“They have to leave the service. If every one of them is like that, then every one of them needs to go,” said Radic, who has spent over four months abroad after the outgoing regime accused him of “preparing to topple the constitutional order” and “releasing classified data” because he asserted the authorities used an illegal sonic weapon against peaceful protestors during the massive, student-led March 15, 2025 rally in Belgrade.
