Former Kosovo premier Isa Mustafa has assessed that U.S. president elect Donald Trump would be determined regarding the solving of relations between Kosovo and Serbia and that he would not tolerate any foot-dragging in the process.
Mustafa told the media in Pristina on Nov. 13 that, during Trump’s first mandate, he had not heard anyone from his administration proposing an exchange of territory as the potential solution for the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina.
“Trump’s previous administration had the idea to reach an agreement that promotes economic development, employment and the reduction of poverty in both countries. I never heard a representative of that administration seeking the exchange of territory,” Mustafa stated, as conveyed by the Kosovo Online agency.
He believes that the new Trump administration would be more efficient regarding the solving of problems between Serbia and Kosovo. “I believe the Trump administration will be more efficient and determined in reaching and implementing the agreement with Serbia. Generally, the Republicans’ discourse is very concrete and clear: ‘If you are not interested in peace and stability, why would we be interested in you?’” That is why we must count on the logic that Trump would not tolerate the process being delayed by both sides,” Mustafa said.
