The Western Balkan region is significantly ahead of Ukraine and Moldova in the European integration process, North Macedonian President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova has said.
"I have deep feelings and understanding for Ukraine, as well as for Moldova, but I cannot [avoid] saying that the Western Balkans are far ahead of them. The screening shows that," Siljanovska Davkova told reporters after a celebration of the Day of the Macedonian Bar Association late on June 16.
She further said that the obstacles North Macedonia is facing on the European integration road are "irrational" and called for the focus to be on meeting the EU's Copenhagen criteria.
"The European Union must find mechanisms that will prevent the blocking of enlargement for identity and historical reasons," she said.
