The second half of 2019 and the very beginning of 2020 have brought higher lending rates and a slight recovery of lending to companies, the Croatian Society of Banks has said in an analysis.

The rise of loans to the population, measured in loans in bank balances, has surpassed six percent per annum, SeeBiz has said.

The sale of bad loan portfolios is still blocking a clear picture of bank balances where lending to companies is concerned.

Net revenues from interest in 2019 grew to HRK10.68bn which, when compared to 2018, is a 6.7% increase.

The biggest contribution to bank results was lower interest, spending compared with 2018 (-19.6%), while income revenues also edged up by 2.5% measured against 2018, which means that the higher volume of lending compensated for lower rates.

The improvement in bank results last year also had to do with net income from fees, which reached HRK.3.6bn.

Still, the biggest contribution to growth stems from dividends, which increased by HRK722m from 2018.
