Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic (BETAPHOTO/MILOS MISKOV)
Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic-Handanovic said on Feb. 20 that the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the United States Department of the Treasury had extended the Oil Industry of Serbia's (NIS) operating license for 30 days, until March 20.
"NIS can continue to import crude oil, process it at the refinery in Pancevo and continue regular supply of petroleum products to the market," Djedovic-Handanovic said in a statement.
The minister added that she would also hold talks with the Russian party, and that she would leave for Washington next week, where "diplomatic efforts to find a solution regarding the sanctions against NIS" would continue.
Djedovic-Handanovic noted there had been no shortages on the market and that a major crisis had been overcome. "At the end of last year, there was almost no inflow of crude oil into Serbia for nearly 100 days, yet there were no fuel shortages. We are finding the best sustainable solution while protecting the interests of our citizens, and will continue to inform the public transparently about all developments, as we have done so far," the minister said.
