The Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS) oil company announced on July 29 that they had initiated a test run of two small power plants at the Banatsko Milosevo and Srpska Crnja gas fields, enabling the production of electricity by activating unused gas resources.
The value of the investments is around RSD2 billion and the total rated output power of the plants is five megawatts. The Banatsko Milosevo small power plant can produce 21 GWh of electricity per year and the Srpska Crnja 19.5 GWh, which is enough to supply almost 8,000 average households.
The investment has enabled an increase in electricity production from gas that has so far been unused, with a reduction of emissions of harmful matter into the air and the advancement of energy efficiency, stated the company.
The project of constructing small power plants at NIS’ oil and gas fields has been in realization since 2013, as part of a long-term strategy oriented toward the company’s energy transition, improving of business efficiency through rational use of resources and the advancement of environment protection.
