Belgrade Mayor Aleksandar Sapic last week reignited a heated debate in the Serbian public sphere with the announcement that he would initiate the building of a monument to Dragoljub “Draza” Mihailovic, the leader of the Chetnik movement in World War II, and with the idea that the grave of Yugoslav leader Josip “Tito” Broz should be displaced from the Museum of Yugoslavia. Although these may seem like Sapic’s personal initiatives, one should not rule out the possibility that he launched at least one of the two topics in agreement with President Aleksandar Vucic.
