The president of the Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dragan Covic, has been the unopposed leader of Bosnian Croats since he took over the helm of the party in 2005. Yet in the 2018 general election he lost a seat in the tripartite Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Democratic Front leader, Zeljko Komsic, reelected thanks to Bosniak votes. It motivated Covic to launch a campaign to change the Election Act, arguing that it made it possible that Croats be outvoted.
