The Biggest Election Surprise

Serbia’s charismatic doctor Branimir Nestorovic, the leading name on the We – The Voice of the People ticket, is the greatest surprise of the elections held on Dec. 17. Nestorovic, whose political prominence the leader of the ruling coalition, Aleksandar Vucic, too, deserves credit for, unexpectedly crossed the electoral threshold in Serbia’s parliamentary polls and a local election in the capital alike, with no party infrastructure to rely on. Moreover, whether Belgrade’s city government will be installed or not depends directly on Nestorovic’s movement, as neither the opposition nor the government managed to secure a majority in the city parliament.
