Serbia has made visible progress in harmonizing with the laws and standards of the EU in food safety, which is encompassed in Chapter 12 of the pre-accession negotiations with the EU, it was stated at the briefing in the EU Info Center in Belgrade on March 5.

During the briefing, held under the title "EU For You – What Do European Standards Bring To Serbia?" in the fields from negotiation chapters 12 and 27 (environment protection and climate change), the participants spoke about the correct marking of nutrition and health statements on food products, and about the improvement of regulations about drinking water, mineral and spring water.

The subject was covered by experts in the project Policy and Legal Advice Center (PLAC III) for aiding the Serbian government in harmonizing domestic regulations with those of the EU.

The leader of the project, Andrej Engelman, stated that the EU had designated more than EUR2.8 million for the project, by which it will provide support to Serbia in 11 negotiation chapters. A representative of the EU Delegation in Serbia, Hurdas Sakelaris, assessed that Serbia had made visible progress in negotiations about Chapter 12.
