The general secretary of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), Majlinda Bregu, said on March 18 that time, exchange of information and coordination were fundamental in the efficient fight against the pandemic, and that corridors towards the region should be open for the supply of medicines, medical equipment and food.
She said that during consultations in the form of a video-conference with representatives of the six governments of the Western Balkans, the European Union and other regional factors, about joint activities in the alleviation of consequences of the pandemic caused by the corona virus, reads the statement of the RCC.
We have the responsibility to act urgently and give crucial contribution to securing the continuity of commercial activity, preservation of supply chains and prevention of the worsening of social and economic problems that our region is already facing, Bregu said.
The participants of the meeting, among whom the representatives of the authorities of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, the European Union, the Transport Community and CEFTA, described the situations in their economies and fields of work, and future plans, while all factors in the region concurred that it was crucially important to establish green corridors within the region and with the EU.
By March 18, four of the six Western Balkan countries declared the state of emergency, while more than 400 people are infected with the corona virus, the statement reads.
