The migrants in Serbia had been held in complete isolation for more than three weeks now and no coronavirus infections had been registered among them, the Serbian Commissariat for Refugees and Migration (SCRM) said on April 7.

Commenting on the incident in the reception center in Obrenovac, which required police engagement in a brawl involving some 50 migrants, the SCRM said that increased tension and anxiety in these centers “were expected for the fact that the migrants have been quarantined.”

“It is however not a reason or excuse for breaching the state of emergency rules, which must be obeyed by all in the situation posing a great danger to citizens’ health,” it is said in the statement.

The SCRM added it expected relevant authorities to process all those involved in the riots under the law applicable during the state of emergency, stressing that they would not tolerate breaches of the state of emergency rules in reception centers.
