Defense Minister Aleksandar Vulin on April 21 said that the softening of the restrictions imposed during the state of emergency in Serbia over the coronavirus pandemic would not significantly affect the Serbian Army as it would pursue its so far tasks.

“We will continue, together with the Interior Ministry, to safeguard border crossings, the crucial health institutions, migrant camps, and social protection facilities... There will be no relaxation for us,” Vulin told TV Pink.

He stressed that the army personnel would work for as long as necessary and that military doctors would be treating civilians and helping doctors. Vulin added that Serbia had done well during the pandemic, particularly if compared to much more powerful and richer countries with larger population.

Vulin noted that Serbia was choosing its friends. “This horror of combating the coronavirus has shown who our best friends are and how true friends behave, when Russia and China deploy aid, and then Turkey sends aid at the right time,” Vulin noted.
