Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has talked on April 27 with the president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Suma Chakrabarti, to discuss cooperation between Serbia and the bank in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, the impact of the outbreak on economic growth in Serbia and the Western Balkans, as well as on general economic trends, the Office of the Serbia President reported on April 27.

President Vucic said during a conference call that the pandemic had strongly affected Serbia's economy, but that healthy and stable public finances had made it more resilient than the rest of the region. Vucic added that Serbia's financial status was as solid as it was thanks to the EBRD support as well.

Chakrabarti congratulated Vucic on Serbia's response to the most recent challenges, saying that he was impressed by the measures taken, especially in the fiscal sector, which was never easy to do, the Office quoted the EBRD president as saying.

The Serbian president said he was looking forward to continuing fruitful cooperation with the bank, and that the institution's investment in the private sector, small and medium enterprises in particular, would be more than welcome.
