The director of the Clinic for Infectious and Tropical Diseases of the Clinical Center of Serbia, Goran Stevanovic, said on May 1 that the coronavirus epidemic story was still far from over, but that its decrease at this point allowed for taking a break and estimating what would happen next.

"Over the next few days we will see how the situation will develop and how the self-responsibility of us all will turn out and how many infected we will have in the coming period," said Stevanovic, who is also a member of the Crisis Headquarters for combating the coronavirus, on the subject of relaxing measures.

He told Prva TV that excessive liberation, great self-confidence and relaxation of the entire population would certainly result in a rise in the number of infected.

"That is why I am appealing once again that it be understood that this relaxation of measures does not mean we have finished the epidemic. This loosening of the measures should mean that we have moved from the restrictive measures through which we had to impose unpopular behavior on citizens to the story of self-responsibility," said Stevanovic.

According to the latest data unveiled on April 30, 179 people have died from the novel coronavirus and a total of 9,009 have been infected.
