On June 1, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Bulgarian Prime Minister Bojko Borisov toured the construction works sites on the Bulgarian section of the BalkanStream gas pipeline.

Vucic is on a working visit to Bulgaria on the day the Serbian-Bulgarian border was officially reopened. At the Sofia airport he was welcomed by the Bulgarian prime minister, Borisov.

The buducnostsrbijeav Instagram profile featured the photographs from the airport and the meeting of the two officials, as well as from a helicopter they travelled on during their tour of the construction works on the highway leading to Serbia.

“We are now in a helicopter, thanks to our friend Bojko Borisov; we have passed Slivnica and are heading toward Dragoman to see the works on the highway to Serbia; our Bulgarian brothers should finish it by the end of the next year, and then we will have a highway leading from Belgrade to Sofia, as well as to Burgas and Istanbul,” Vucic wrote.

The president added that it will take less than seven hours to reach the Turkish capital from Belgrade, and less than five to get to Burgas, for which he thanked the “Bulgarian brothers.”

Running through Bulgaria, the BalkanStream is designed to bring natural gas from the TurkStream to Serbia, which finished laying the pipes for its section in December 2019.
