People’s Party vice-president Sinisa Kovacevic said on June 1 that after the elections scheduled for June 21, the opposition parties that are boycotting them will no longer feel shame and will continue to fight for fair and free elections, their argument being that they had not given legitimacy to “those who are robbing the people of their will,” the party’s announcement said.

Appearing with United Democratic Serbia’s representative Nenad Konstantinovic in a show on Nova S TV, Kovacevic asked, “What kind of elections are these when people’s will is being forged?”

“Let’s abolish elections then; it will be cheaper just to introduce the Vucic dynasty. We won’t participate in a social environment where votes are bought and where all the media is under the regime’s yoke – these are the reasons to boycott [the elections],” Kovacevic said.

Kovacevic added that the fight for fair and free elections has to continue after June 21 as well, because “the voice of the people is the voice of God,” which, according to him, is the real meaning of democracy.

The People’s Party vice president also said that the opposition’s common political adversary is Aleksandar Vucic, the Serbian Progressive Party leader and Serbian president, and that is why there is no question about who is participating in the elections and who is not.
