Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said on June 9 that Serbia and the U.S.  needed to stress the positive aspects of their joint past in which they shared values and fought for the preservation of freedom and civilizational achievements.

"The second half of the 20th century brought great challenges and significant discord in Serbian and American relations. This is why it is important for us to stress the positive aspects of our joint past, so that we can today change some of the wrong perceptions that we have created about one another," Dacic said.

At the opening of an exhibition called, Serbian Volunteers from the U.S. - Pupin's and Wilson's contribution to mobilization and the Treaty of Versailles" and the the promotion of a book called, When the Serbian Flag was Flown from the White House, Dacic said that the Diaspora could play an irreplaceable role in winning U.S. favor for achieving current Serbian interests.

Dacic said that "two greats, professor Mihajlo Pupin and President Woodrow Wilson, are a positive example of Serbian-American cooperation who through their achievements, activism and political activities left a deep imprint and also left, not just two nations - the Serbs and Americans, in their debt, but all of mankind."
