Srebrenica genocide was still an open wound at the heart of Europe and reminded us of our shared responsibility to prevent genocide from ever happening again, EU Neighborhood and Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Verhelyi said on July 7, addressing a digital conference dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre.
“Values so dramatically violated 25 years ago are now at the core of our engagement in Western Balkans,” Varhelyi wrote on his Twitter.
The announcement for digital conference titled “Remembering Srebrenica: Europe’s shared history,” said: “Voices from civil society and youth will reflect with witnesses and survivors upon one of the darkest pages of modern European history and discuss ways to build a future of truth and justice for the current and coming generations.”
