On July 7 Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced that the epidemiological situation in Belgrade was alarming and that as of July 8 public gatherings of over 5 people in confined spaces and outdoors would be banned and that "a lengthy curfew lasting until Monday, July 13" would be placed in effect as of July 10.
In an emergency televised address to the nation he said that July 7 had been the most difficult day for Serbia since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic as 13 people had died as a result of the virus over the past 24 hours.
"According to information on 3 p.m., July 7 there were around 110 people on ventilators and now there are over 120. Belgrade is in a critical situation and the situation is serious in four other cities," Vucic said.
He added that 4,000 people were currently hospitalized with either confirmed or suspected infections and that hospitals in Belgrade "are nearly full."
