As of July 13 the citizens of Serbia and Montenegro can travel to the Czech Republic only for specified reasons, including employment, studying or family visits, and they also need to present a negative Covid-19 test or quarantine for 14 days, just like the Czech nationals coming back home from the two states.
As the epidemiological situation had worsened in Serbia and Montenegro, the Czech Ministry of Health decided on July 10 to place them in the red risk category, including the Western Balkan high-risk states that are not members of the European Union.
The Czech "traffic light system" categorizing states according to the Covid-19 epidemiological risks follows the number of infections per 100,000 people, which over the past few days has surged dramatically in Serbia.
"This is the criterion many states use when assessing risk levels in a given state. Slovenia has accepted a tighter criterion - 10 infected persons per 100,000 people pose a risk already. For most of the states that number is 16, and we have accepted it as well. In Serbia and Montenegro it oscillates around 50 per 100,000. That is the reason why we have taken this step," Czech Minister of Health Adam Votech explained.
