Last week’s disappearance of Aleksandar Nesovic, who is believed to have been murdered, has not stopped intriguing the Serbian public for days, mostly because of the direct involvement of Veselin Milic, who was arrested on May 15 and dismissed as the head of the Belgrade police. That case has put the spotlight on links between the top of the government, police and organized crime, and has placed the authorities led by Aleksandar Vucic in an uncomfortable position. Vucic has been striving on a daily basis to relativize the crime, in an attempt to lessen negative publicity.
