The National Electoral Commission of Montenegro announced on Sept. 14 the official results of an Aug 30 parliamentary vote in Montenegro, confirming a preliminary forecast giving President Milo Djukanovic's Democratic Party of Socialists 30 seats in the 81-seat parliament, not enough for the president to form a parliamentary majority and set up a new cabinet with his traditional allies.

Three opposition blocs won 41 seats together, creating a new parliamentary majority. Zdravko Krivokapic's For the Future of Montenegro gained 27 seats, ten went to Aleksa Becic's Peace is Our Nation, and a coalition led by Dritan Abazovic won four seats.

The Democratic Socialists had accepted the election defeat, and the three opposition coalitions arranged a framework for setting up a new government. The inaugural session of a new legislature is expected to take place by Sept. 29, 15 days after the final results have been published.
