A gender responsive budget improves the quality of everyday life for all citizens, eliminating inequalities and creating a more just society, and Serbia is an example of good practice with respect to gender responsive budgeting, the president of the Coordinating Body for Gender Equality, Zorana Mihajlovic, said on Sept. 30.

At the launch of a four-year regional project to support gender equality by promoting gender responsive budgeting, the outgoing construction minister also said that Serbia had been systematically taking care of the interests and needs of all citizens since 2015, when a structural financial reform was carried out.

"It is not possible without political leadership and gender responsive institutions, and the Coordinating Body strongly supports all transformative social changes that gender responsive budgeting is bringing to a society of equal opportunity we want to build," Mihajlovic was quoted as saying in a press release.

The project is supported by the U.N. Women and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).
