European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi will present in Brussels, on Oct. 6, the EU Enlargement Package 2020 and a new Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans.
The Enlargement Package, which contains progress reports for candidate countries and potential candidates for EU membership, will be released at a meeting of the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs, scheduled for 3.15 p.m.
The details of the Economic and Investment Plan for the region are not available, but speaking about the Union's enlargement last weekend in Zagreb, Croatia, Varhelyi said the process would be "strongly focused on connectivity within the region and between the region and the EU."
"The purpose of our plan is to strengthen trans-European transportation and energy networks and build infrastructure that is key to economic growth. We will resolve the challenges of green and digital transition as well. As a way of support to economic growth, we'll be offering support to people, too - education, healthcare and social protection will play an important part in the process," the EU enlargement commissioner said.
