Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral Amfilohije was buried according to his own wishes in the crypt of the Cathedral Church in Podgorica on Nov. 1.
His body was first laid out at the church where people could pay their respects.
Serbian Orthodox Church head Irinej held the funeral rites. Among the speakers at the funeral were academician Matija Beckovic, Patriarch Irinej, Bishop of Budimlje and Niksic Joanikije, premier designate Zdravko Krivokapic and Montenegrin parliament Speaker Aleksa Becic.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Serb member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Milorad Dodik and Serbian Ambassador to Montenegro Vladimir Bozovic attended the funeral.
On Oct. 31, citizens filed past the deceased bishop's body in the church throughout the day to pay their respects. Amfilohije died at the Clinic and Hospital Center of Montenegro on Oct. 30 of COVID-19.
