Marijan Ivanusa, director of the World Health Organization Office in Serbia, said on Nov. 27 that, in the last seven days, the country had recorded some of the world's highest rates of new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people.

Ivanusa told Prva TV that we should wait and see the results of the measures taken to date to curb the spread of infection.

"I had hoped that the epidemiological situation in Serbia would improve before mid-December, but now that expectation isn't realistic. We'll see where we stand in a week," he said.

According to him, the medical community should find a middle ground between measures that are "possible to implement" and those that "need to be implemented."
