Mirsad Djerlek, the state secretary in the Ministry of Health, said on Dec. 2 that the epidemiological situation in all counties and regions of the country is more or less the same – „very serious, grave and uncertain.“

At the moment we are fighting [the covid 19 epidemic] in the whole territory of Serbia,“ Djerlek told the RTS  public service. Asked about the situation in the capital city's hospitals, he responded that „covid capacities in Belgrade are fully occupied, and the number of those admitted [to hospitals] still exceeds the number of those released.“

„Our doctors are doing their best to make room for the most serious patients, while the others are transported to other centers such as Kragujevac, Nis, Sokobanja, Vrnjacka Banja,“ Djerlek said and added that the treatment protocols are the same in the whole of Serbia.

Speaking about new measures the government should adopt soon, Djerlek said that good results can be expected if people show responsibility and discipline. He added that the results are hard to predict, but that he believes they can be expected within seven to ten days after the new measures are introduced.

According to him, since there are many newly infected every day, it will be rather difficult to stabilize the situation. „After seven to ten days we will evaluate the situation, and if need be, new, stricter measures will be introduced,“ Djerlek said.
