Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Dec. 15 that Serbia would not impose sanctions on Russia unlike Montenegro.

"We will not impose sanctions on the Russian Federation" Vucic said at a news conference after meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov who visited Belgrade.

Vucic described his conversation with Lavrov as thorough and friendly and said that they discussed "essential and deep questions" in relations between the two countries.

"We established the strategic orientation of our two countries to continue development on a friendly and respectful basis - wherever we can improve our relations," Vucic said, adding that he was grateful to Russia for its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia, calling the relationship between Serbia and Russia "reciprocal."

He also said "I voiced my personal concern as the president of Serbia" regarding the situation in the region and that "I hope all of us together will have the sense and strength" to solve disputes peacefully, which "is Serbia's orientation."
